GALEGA

G. officinalis

Herbaceous perennial with lax lush compound foliage.  Sweet coconut smelling lavender flowers throughout summer.

G. officinalis x hartlandii ‘Alba’

Young spring leaves are variegated.  Fat white flower spikes which are coconut scented are produced from Jun until the end of September.  Lovely loose growth at the end of the year.  Easy.

G. “His Majesty”

Foliage mid green similar to ‘Alba’.  Two tone Blue and White flowers from June to September with heavy coco-nut fragrance.

GALIUM

G. odoratum

Sweet Woodruff.  will grow nicely in shade bearing small fragranced white flowers during spring.  Whorls of glossy foliage make this an attractive ground cover perennial.

GERANIUM

G. x cantabrigiense ‘St Ola’

Robust and vigorous hardy geranium that forms an evergreen carpet.  Lovely pure white flowers which fade with a hint of pint  flower over a long period from May until September.

G.  clarkei ‘Kashmir Pink’

Hardy geranium with deeply divided foliage.  Very vigorous and mound forming.  upward facing deep violet-purple veined flowers are produced throughout summer.  Easy in almost every soil, full sun or partial shade.

G. himalayense ‘Birch’s Double’

Double ruffled flowering hardy geranium.  An excellent weaving plant that lots great through other plants.  Foliage turns red in Autumn.  Flowers over a shorter time than some but well worth it.

G. himalayense ‘Gravetye”

Hardy Perennial.  Clear single flowers mauve-blue, with attractive cut foliage. AGM

G. macrorrhizum “Czakor”

Fantastic fragrant foliage growing in an attractive mound that feels velvety to the touch..  Covered with magenta flowers throughout  mid-spring through to late summer.  Evergreen and very garden worthy.

G.macrorrhizum ‘Ingwersen’s Variety’ AGM

Lovely semi-evergreen foliage with a distinctive fragrance.  White flowers are produced in Spring.  Good autumn foliage colour.

G. phaeum

Clump forming hardy perennial. Useful ‘do-er’ at the front of the border, under trees and other gap filling places.  Deep green foliage and somber deep burgundy flowers held in spikes from May to July.  Can be successfully naturalised in Grass.

G. phaeum “Samabor”

Similar to phaeum in flower. Each leaf is marked by a highly attractive dark coloured disc making this a highly desirable plant.

  1. G.Scheckteri

Very recently discovered introduction from South Africa.  Stunning greyish green large delicately cut leaves resembling filigree forming a rounded mound.  Covered with large veined maroon to dusky pink flowers from mid-summer.  This is our current favourite geranium.

G. thunbergii “Jesters Jacket”

Irregular variegated foliage, splashed cream.  Small cut leaves and pink flowers through out summer.

GALANTHUS

  1. G.Atkinsii AGM

Discovered originally on Painswick Estate around 1875  by John Atkins and going into commercial production not long after this is often quoted as the superior large early flowering snowdrop.  We always sell out by the end of January so email us to check availability.

G. Atkinsii ‘James Backhouse’

Sport of G. Atkinsii with occasional slightly deformed and irregular petals.  In no way a distraction actually rather charming. Robust and good in long grass. Limited Availability

G. elwesii

Named after H.J. Elwes (1846-1922) an English sportsman and plant collector who collected the original plants in N.W. Turkey.  G. elwesii is native to Yugoslavia, Romania and the Ukraine parts of Greece and western Turkey. Distinguished from other species by glaucous leaves neatly folded one inside the other. Flowers have two green spots on the inner petals which sometimes join to present a totally green inner face.

  1. G.‘Lynn’

Obtained from a historic garden . With tall flowering stems and long bigger flowers than G. Atkinsii . Limited number available.

  1. G.‘Magnet’

A dramatic hybrid with long slender pedicels on which hang rather heavy flowers, moving beautifully in the slightest current of air. Limited Availability.

  1. G.nivalis

Single flowering Snowdrop.  Ideal for naturalising in woodland settings.  Early flowers are a herald of spring to come.  G. nivalis has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

  1. G.nivalis  ‘flore pleno’

Double, pure white, pear-shaped flowers with green-tipped inner petals and narrow grey - green leaves.  Flowering in January and February. These delightful double snowdrops are ideal for naturalising in the border under deciduous trees and shrubs.

  1. G.nivalis ‘Lady Elphinstone’

Lovely double once seen never forgotten with highly muddled center, at its best it’s center is soft shades of yellow green at other times it is a washed out green.  Colour can vary from one year to the next, but it is a joy to behold.

  1. G.‘S. Arnott’

Large flowers, similar in size to G. ‘Magnet’ but with wonderful curving outer petals with a blunt point. Nice

grey-ish leaves flowers held nice and open catching the slightest breeze.

  1. G.woronowii

The Giant Snowdrop has been grown in the UK for around 100 years, but is native to a wide range of habitats in north-eastern Turkey and southern Russia. It naturally occurs in forests, fields, ditches, grassy meadows as well as rocky gorges, scree and stony slopes.  It has a basal rosette of chunky green leaves that are waxy to the touch, and from their centre emerges a single stem bearing the delicate white flower which has a small green mark on the inner segments.
