MACLEAYA
M. ‘Spetchley Ruby’
Ruby red seed heads and flowering plumes through August and September. Large figured grey leaves with ruby undertones. Can be invasive but well worth it.

The honey bush is perennial in most sheltered gardens, Glaucose foliage which is very exotic looking is followed by deep chocolate coloured flowers up to 6 inches long which also smell like chocolate, perfect. Like moist to dry soils in full sun. AGM

MELICA
M. altissima var. atropurpurea
Dense clumps of thicket like grass with broad leaves, which when caught in the breeze always sound dry produces deep purple one sided panicles which turn golden brown with age. Naturally occurs from Eastern Europe into Siberia.

M. effusum ‘Aureum’
Excellent in a shady spot. Semi-evergreen forming a dense mound of yellow leaves maturing bright green. Delicate golden flowers appear in summer. Spreads naturally making an excellent addition weaving through other plants. Good for woodland schemes also.

Perennial. Clusters of small white flowers during summer. Ovate leaves are irregularly blotched with golden yellow markings. Looks great planted in big groups.

The Crete Balm has nicely aromatic, pubescent leaves which may be used in teas and fruit salads. It has a distinctively lime fragrance. Native of the Mediterranean and is easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot.

MENTHA
M.aff. longifolia
Unidentified mint variety in the Mentha longifolia group with elongated oval leaves, densely covered with short, fine hairs. Intense aromatic mint scent and flavour. Makes terminal, elongated, densely packed clusters of light pink flowers. Seeds from plants found growing along a stream in Yammoune (Beka'a valley, Lebanon) at roughly 1.650m.

M.longifolia ssp. capensis
South African native having unusually narrow, long, fresh green leaves with a sweet-aromatic flavour and terminal spikes of white flowers. Hardy in sunny well drained spots.

M. pulegium
Distinctively un-mint like. Compact grey foliage which is rather neat of habit. Pale mauve flowers in every leaf axil from July through to August in whorls. Lovely scent similar to monardella.

MISCANTHUS
M. transmorrisonensis
This is an evergreen Miscanthus which is fairly uncommon. Forming large dense clumps of graceful narrow glossy swords of foliage up to 1 meter high. Late summer it produced arching plumes which last long into the winter. Full sun or part shade. Originates from Taiwan.

MOLINA
M. arundinacea ‘Skyracer’
Impressively tall growing reliable perennial grass. Slender but sturdy stems reaching 10ft are produced from late summer topped with golden panicles. Narrow low growing mid-green leaves form a basal clump.

Bergamot with citrus fragrance. Native to the mid-west USA lanceolate foliage and triple bruised purple flowers. Highly attractive to bees and butterflies.

MOLOPOSPERMUM
M. peloponnesiacum
Endemic to the Alps and Southern Pyrenees this tall growing hardy perennial umbel has strongly aromatic shiny fern like foliage and numerous flat white to golden yellow flower heads. In Catalan it is known as the ‘couscouli’. The young petioles are eaten raw in salads or used in the preparation of liqueurs. Tolerates most situation except wet soils.
