RANUNCULUS
R.cortusifolius
Canary Buttercup is a perennial with large, fresh green, acer-like leaves and large, brilliant yellow flower cups on a tall stem. Native of rich, rather moist soils throughout all Canary islands. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. Plants go dormant in summer, then keep the succulent bulbous rhizomes drier until new leaves emerge in late autumn to mid winter. Not always winter hardy so best in a large pot grown in the greenhouse over the cold period.

R. ficaria ‘Brazen Hussy’
Hardy herbaceous tuberous perennial. Chocolate brown heart shaped foliage with bright yellow buttercup like flowers. Prefers full sun to partial shade in damp soils.

R.gramineus
Clump-forming with basal leaves linear to lanceolate with a strongly glacous appearance. The delightful rich glistening yellow flowers 2cm or more across are produced in early May and last for several weeks.
Viable seed is usually produced and is best sown fresh however self-sown seedlings will often be found around the plant in early spring. Has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

ROSMARINUS
R. officinalis
Easy to grow woody herb. Prefers full sun and dry soils. Can be used to make low hedges and topiary along side its culinary and medicinal uses. Rosemary has been used as a symbol for remembrance for centuries, during weddings, war commemorations and funerals.

RUBUS
R. ludwigii
The ‘Silver Bramble’ comes from the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa where it makes small congested shrub-lets of silvery-green wrinkled leaves. The white flowers, produced in spring are followed by tiny clusters of edible white powdered berries. Very rare and recently introduced.

R. odoratus
Native to Virginia. Upright gracefully arching canes with large matt green acer like foliage. From mid - summer through to early autumn canes are terminated with clusters of open solid pink flowers, in turn followed by small edible berries. Non - invasive

RUTA
R. graveolens ‘Variegata’
Unusual compound leaves with random variegation making a striking blue-green cream combination. Can be clipped into a hedge or left to grow free form where it will produce a neat mound of foliage. Thrives in hot dry conditions but will take some shade.

RHEUM
R. tanguticum
Native to east part of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China where it is not only endangered but has been used for thousands of years as a medicinal plant. Herbaceous with young stems flushed rich red lasting through the season and open palmate leaves. Produces towering inflorescence with rich ruby bracts fading golden. Lovely at the back of the border or looks much better than traditional rhubarb and is much sweeter.
